Farewell to Borre Winckel |
The BIA extends a warm and heartfelt farewell to our outstanding leader, Borre Winckel. As Executive Officer for the past 12 years, Winckel's leadership took the BIA to the next level making it a shining example of what the homebuilding industry can accomplish. Under his guidance, the BIA team played an instrumental role in the creation of landmark planning and conservation plans, led efforts to reform and streamline the entitlement process and created powerful alliances to protect the industry and its causes. Most recently, Borre and the BIA team worked with local leaders to develop the Riverside County Economic Development "RED Team."
Without question we will miss Borre, his leadership and his passion for the homebuilding industry. Fortunately, he's not going too far, as we look forward to working with him in his new role as the CEO of the BIA of San Diego County. Please join us at the Moroccan Summer Sizzle where we will bid a fond farewell to Borre.

Green Building |
Last month the California Building Standards Commission adopted statewide standards for green building, a first in the nation. In consultation with homebuilders and other stakeholders, the new codes were created to further reduce the environmental impacts of new housing. The California Building Industry Association your statewide advocate worked tirelessly to ensure the new codes are acceptable to the industry and cost-effective to prospective new homeowners. Portions of the code go into effect on January 1, 2009 and it will become mandatory by 2011. To read CBIA's news release click here. Along with the recent adoption of the Green Building Standards, we are pleased to continue our efforts to encourage local governments to reduce impact fees and relieve burdens associated with the home building industry.
